“Canada’s Role in the Coming Resource Boom”
with Mr. Jonathan Wellum, B. Comm., B.Sc., MA, MBA, CFA
The world is witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand for resources—oil, gas, uranium, base metals, and “renewables”—to power the relentless march of digitization, artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, and robotics. This technological revolution requires a mining and energy revolution larger than anything we have witnessed over the last century.
Canada’s resource wealth–oil, gas, uranium, minerals, timber, agriculture and hydropower–positions it to capitalize on the global tech and energy revolution. By addressing infrastructure gaps, regulatory delays and market diversification, Canada could transform its resource potential into a robust export economy, rivaling global leaders like Australia and Norway. Strategic investments and policies could indeed make Canada one of the world’s wealthiest nations, powering the AI-driven future while maintaining its environmental commitments.
