So I asked her what she did and she said she worked for Microsoft. She’s an executive there. And I said, “Well, I’m writing an article right now on A.I. Can you tell me what you can tell me–because obviously a lot of information is confidential in developmental kinds of things.”
She went on and on and on, breathless with excitement about what A.I. is going to do. She didn’t give me a lot of detail, because she can’t do that. But she said things like, “You have no idea what’s coming. The thing that we’re working on now, that is the baseline. It’s not even close to what’s really coming.”
Microsoft is going to be, I think, investing a couple of billion dollars into open A.I. very, very soon–if it hasn’t already done so. And I said, “Well what are you excited about?”
She said, “The ability for A.I. to do so many wonderful things for us.”
She said, “It’ll free people up to be more creative, to be thinking about things that they don’t spend time thinking about, because they’re too busy writing that email, or compiling the data, or figuring out this or that.”
She said, “This will free us up to do so many things. Cancer Research is going to have an exponential leap forward because of the ability of A.I. to basically congeal all of the data that’s happening all around the world in terms of cancer research, and apply new models to the way things are going to happen with pathways in the body.”
She went on and on and on about the blessings of it. And she’s probably right about almost all of it. Almost all these benefits are actually going to happen.
So then I asked her a follow up question. I said, “What do you see as the downsides?”
Because her excitement level was a little too excited. It’s like, you’re crazy excited about this. This can’t be. This is too good to be true.
And she said, […]–these are her words–she said, “A.I. is by far–by order of magnitude–it is by far the greatest disruptive power the world has ever seen. And that means we don’t know what it’s going to do to us.”
