Transcript: Reality Collapse
One of the issues that I think that pertains to what I’m talking about, is what’s called the reality collapse. There were two guys who were studying AI–they’re actually developers of it and they’re really excited about it–Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin. They talk about what’s called the reality collapse. It’s that right now, we’re in a situation where people don’t actually know what’s real anymore.
Think about the way that Tiktok and Instagram have these filters: where it used to be the case that they were laughable. You know, you’d see a person in a picture. It’d be a filter. It would look kind of crazy. They could look like a superhero, or they could have makeup on–but it looked digital.
Now the filters are so good, that if you’re looking at a video with an actual moving picture of another person, you don’t know if that’s what they really look like at all. They could look ten years younger than they actually look and all these things. And that happens from AI.
And so our children–young people–are experiencing the highest levels of anxiety–especially in the West–than they’ve ever experienced before. It’s never been easier to be a child in the West and yet they’re more anxious than they’ve ever been. And the reason is–one of the reasons–when they do all the research, is because children don’t know what’s real. When they look at something, they grow up in a system where they think, that could be real; that could be fake–I don’t know. And they grow up with this.
There are entire videos being made of actual people, who aren’t actually there. They never recorded that video. It can be used for tremendous evil, tremendous evil.
